sweater: rue 21 tank top: old navy pants: target boots: gojane.com
After seeing many pins on pinterest of sweaters with elbow patches I knew I wanted to make my own. Honestly the hardest part was finding and deciding on what kind of sweater I wanted. I originally was looking for a casual grey, baggy sweater but couldn't find a cheap one and figured with my growing belly a cardigan would be a better choice. And I found this one for only $6 at Rue 21. Which means I made this sweater for less than $10.
Here are the incredibly easy steps:
1. Supplies: sweater/sweatshirt, piece of leather, sharp needle, heavy thread.
2. Use a piece of paper to draw whatever size/shape patch you'd like. Hold it up to your sweater to make sure it's the size you want. Trace two onto your leather and cut them out.
3. Put your sweater on and put a pin where you'd like your patch to go.
4. Pin your leather onto your shirt and sew your patch on. I used a double thread to make sure it was sturdy.
5. Do it on the other sleeve and that is it!

Very cute! Good job Katie! I want one with heart patches too, those are cute.
Very cute! The hearts would be adorable for Valentine's day, but yours are definitely more practical. Good work!
Cute! I think I could do that!
Love love love! I love the shabbychic look of the patches. I need to try this one!
What a great look honey! Kori xoxo
I saw your pic on Instagram and I fell in LOVE with it! It's so cute (and seems easy enough for someone who doesn't really sew). So happy you shared the tutorial!

The more I see those boots, the more I like them. Also, a hand-sewn project?? Yes, please!
Katie, I love it!!! The mustard patches are what I would have picked too!! And score on it being only $10 smacks!!! Man, I need to learn to sew!
you really are SO creative, katie!! i wish i could sew - i try, i really do, and i just butcher things. I don't have that gene in my body, unfortunately. this looks adorable!
So cute & so easy! Love it!
I was just saying last night how cute elbow patches are! Love this DIY!
Great job! And since you didn't glue them down you can replace them with a different color or shape at any time. I have had my eye on a sweater with cat-head-shaped patches.
Looks great! I love the elbow patches. I will definitely be doing this to some of my favorite cardis, because I figure the elbows will be the first part to give.
Wow, that is so cute! AND I have an identical sweater I can do that to!
Amazing DIY! Elbow patches make every outfit better :)
