I had been really looking forward to Halloween. Addilyns costume. Trick or treating at Chris parents and hanging out as a family, especially after Chris was gone last weekend. Both Addilyn and Chris were sick, and Addi had been up from 2-5 straight the night before and wouldn't nap during the day, so I frustratingly got in my car and started to drive. Thankfully she fell asleep quickly but I couldn't help but cry. I felt pathetic sitting in my car, crying over my expectations for Halloween not matching up.
It's hard for me to not be disappointed because things don't go as planned. Especially for a holiday I was excited about doing with Addilyn.
I texted my sister pathetically and she could sympathize with me but also reminded me that this is parenthood. And life. You can't control everything. Big or little.
I had all these hopes of great Halloween memories, and they didn't happen. But last Sunday my mom and I went to our towns Main Street trick or treating. It wasn't planned and ended up being really fun. Perfect weather and we had a great time.
(Our one round of trick or treating for pictures sake and because that lamb costume needs to get it's moneys worth!)
Love you & that little lamb!
ReplyDeleteI completely sympathize with you. My work had a kids trick or treating that I looked forward to for weeks. Then my kids got sick & could not go. I was so bummed. Luckily they got to on Halloween.
ReplyDeleteI am so sorry it did no got as planned but she was a very cute little lamb!
ReplyDeleteIsn't it nice to have people to pathetically text, though? Makes it all better :) That lamb costume is seriously the best.
ReplyDeleteThis is something I am also struggling with. LOve ya!
ReplyDeleteAww... she's so cute!! I feel ya on plans changing and making the best of them (or not, in my case). All too often I remind myself to GO WITH THE FLOW. One of these years maybe I will get it.
ReplyDeleteI am one who is guilty of being upset when things don't go the way I thought they would (you know, not the scenario that ran through my mind). I have learned to be more flexible and lower my expectations, but I still have a long way to go (even after being a parent for 10 years).
ReplyDeleteShe was an adorable lamb, though!
Addilyn is adorable as always. Being flexible and making the best of any situation was hard for me prior to having children so it's no surprise that I still struggle with it now that I'm a mom. You are not alone :) I'm sorry that Addi was sick on Halloween, but I was happy to hear of your unexpected day of fun with your mom. I always need a reminder (or three) to look for the silver lining and enjoy the moments that come my way. Maybe Addilyn will get a lead lamb role in a Christmas nativity scene?!?! :)
ReplyDeleteI can relate to this so much. I struggle daily with things not living up to my expectations. Thanks for sharing so honestly. Your daughter is darling and you seem like such a wonderful.
ReplyDeleteMom 😊
ReplyDeleteUgh you mean this lesson doesn't fix itself or get better??? I'm still upset with the pictures we don't have of Noah's birth story. Things didn't go as planned and I can't help to be disappointed that we don't have those documented.
ReplyDeleteI was disappointed with Noah's first Halloween too! No party, very little trick or treating and not being home!! But I guess such as life!!
Addilyn is the sweetest little lamb!! Your are doing great Mommy!! Why is it soo hard to let go of our plans? You think going through infertility would have taught us a thing or two! Lol
I SO feel you. For my little mans first Christmas (he was 5 months) we were in the emergency room with him at 2 a.m on Christmas eve. It was terrible. We were all sick. No fun :(
ReplyDeleteYour sister is right, life with kids (and just life in general)can't be controlled and will almost never go as planned! It can be hard sometimes, and it definitely gets easier as they get older. I am glad you ended up having a good day trick-or-treating with your cute little lamb! A nice, unexpected treat!
ReplyDeleteAww, I'm sorry Halloween didn't go as planned :( Being sick is such a bummer! My whole family was sick on Christmas once, and it was awful! We couldn't do any of our usual traditions! So we just postponed things and had our own Christmas when we got better! It's kind of hard to postpone Halloween because all of the other neighbors don't get the memo and have candy for you in November... but at least you squeezed a little bit of trick or treating in there!
ReplyDeleteCutest little lamb ever tho! Yeah Rea lees all over her onesie as we were about to walk out the door lol. Luckily i was able to pull the fringe off and glue into another one. That's small compared to what you went thru but at least you got one good day out of the weekend!
