Someday

I find myself struggling with finding a schedule and routine.  I feel like as the three month mark approaches I know that Addilyn is capable of being on more of a feeding and sleeping routine.  We've made some progress with a little nap on her own here and there but nothing is close to consistent.

I struggle because I long for time hands free to get things done.  I want time to do a workout video or unload the dishwasher without narrating play by play what I'm doing and running back and forth to her bouncy seat to make sure she's entertained.  I'd love to sit and drink my coffee on my own or have some time to blog during the day.

BUT I also want to snuggle my baby.  I want her to sleep on my chest while I watch the Today show.  I want to soak up these moments as I know they will pass so quickly.  I want to rest while she sleeps on me.  I want to know that I took advantage of having one baby and no one else to take care of during the day.
So where is the balance?  I don't know.

Someday we will be on a schedule.  Someday she'll take naps in her crib.  But today is not that day.  We are choosing the snuggles over the hands free coffee drinking moment.   I'm choosing to continue to try naps but to try not stress out when it doesn't work.  And maybe tomorrow will be an attempt at a hands free nap. But not today.

  1. Nothing wrong with choosing baby snuggles. I sometimes regret how schedule happy I was with my first because I didn't realize that by the time the second comes you no longer get to enjoy those all day snuggles, instead you have to learn to split your time. Enjoy it! And who really wants to unload this dishwasher anyways....

  2. Some days rest with the baby is better than no rest at all. I long for days who I don't have three children following me into the bathroom every time I have to pee and quiet car rides. Yet, I would hate it if my kids didn't talk to me or didn't want to be with me. We all struggle, no matter what the stage our kids our in. Thinking of you often :)

  3. I would give almost anything to go back to the days when all we did was snuggle. Those times fly by, and before you know it you'll be longing for an afternoon snuggle sesh. Enjoy them while you can.

  4. Just enjoy this time while you have it. All of those other things will still be there months and even years from now, but you'll never be able to get this time back with your baby.

  5. I agree! But for now, like you, I'm choosing to embrace all of these sweet moments with my little girl. Because the first three months have already flown by, I'm not ready for three years to pass me by that fast. You are doing great Mama! Enjoy those snuggles, the dishwasher can wait (I have to remind myself of that daily too!).

  6. I felt the same way! They grow out of the snuggle phase too soon.

  7. I'll be the odd man out here, and admit that I loved having a schedule. It was not set in stone, but I found that doing things around the same time every day made me and my baby happier. I think it depends on the baby though - some seem to gravitate towards a routine. And of course I agree that baby snuggles are the best!!

  8. Nawwww, i love that you are enjoying your snuggles with her. That is so special. Routine will come and work when you are all ready for it. In the mean time, keep enjoying your precious wee girl! xx

  9. Harper would not let me put her down today & as soon as I finished school with Anna, I surrendered. I laid on the couch with her on my chest & we napped together.

  10. You are so right!!! Enjoy these sweet moments. She has the rest of her life to sleep on her own...keep on with the snuggles a little while longer. :)

  12. I had the same exact struggle with Bear right around that age. It was tough and I too felt the bittersweet-ness of wanting to hold him but needing to get things done. It passed though...probably lasted until 4-5 months. Soak up those sweet moments :) you'll miss them!

  13. The best advice I heard when I was going through a similar phase with Micha was 'This too shall pass', not only the hard stuff but also the sweet baby cuddles.
So enjoy the cuddles and try not to stress out to much about getting into a routine.
    You're doing a great job!

  14. i definitely remember those days. it will get better, but some days are much harder than others. always keep in mind that you should never feel guilty for wanting to have a few moments to yourself! i decided to get a sling so i could have some hands-fee time while still holding the babies. it helped a little (but not for the workout part!) hang in there!

  15. I'm sure that in time she will be on a schedule but you should definitely savor all these moments now!

  18. give yourself some more slack, you have been a mom for 3 months you aren't expect to have it perfect or down to a routine now you are just suppose to feed her, put her to sleep and just love her and addilyn doesn't care if you have it perfect or not she just wants her mom as she is :-)

  20. What a precious picture. She's a doll. I'm worried about getting baby girl on a schedule, too. I think you have the perfect attitude though, Katie :)

  25. I think one of the WORST things I did (at least for my family) was read BabyWise. The idea that you can get a baby on a strong schedule so young is kind of crazy to me. I eventually stopped pushing, and I found that I could get routines...

You will have plenty of time to do exercise videos and dishes someday (or so I hear!). Enjoy what you have now, for it too, shall pass soon enough!

    I love you, Katie!

  26. Forget the schedule - this time of baby snuggles & warm infant skin on yours will be over before you know it!
