I have way more clothes than I actually wear and quite often take way too long to get rid of something in my closet. It isn't until I go a really long time without wearing something that I consider getting rid of it. But then I often talk myself out of it because I have either a dumb sentimental feeling to an item of clothing or I convince myself it will be in style as soon as I drop it off at the thrift store.
This sweater is thankfully one that I didn't follow through with getting rid of even though I haven't worn it in years. After seeing a similar outfit in people magazine I'm glad I kept it, plus it is one of those items that comes with an emotional attachment. My girlfriends from high school used to have an annual Christmas party and secret santa throughout high school, college and a few years after. Sadly we haven't done it in a few years due to everyone living in different places, but this sweater was from my friend Shannon and makes me think about those high school sleepover days when I wear it.
Tell me I'm not alone with the emotional connection to clothing?
I have a few clothes that I won't get of because of the people who gave them to me, like my maroon beanie that I'm still trying to figure out how to wear.
ReplyDeleteMy friends and I do a secret santa too :)

I have emotional attachment to everything!! I can never throw things out without being persuaded, drives my husband nuts!
ReplyDeleteNot alone at all. I convince myself I'll wear something even if I haven't for the last 5 years :)
ReplyDeleteLove that scarf! And that seems like a nice, basic sweater, easy to remix! I'm definitely sentimental about clothes... I have the hardest time getting rid of things!
ReplyDeleteGetting rid of clothes is ridiculously hard for me too! I definitely have an attachment to certain pieces. And it's so true! As soon as you get rid of it, it seems like it comes back in style or there finally is an occasion where you need it.
ReplyDeleteGood job hanging on to this sweater though, it's very cute! Such a classic piece!
I definitely have an emotional connection to clothing! I have sold a bunch of stuff to my co-workers lately, and every time I see them wearing my stuff I want to take it back!
ReplyDeleteI definitely have emotional attachments to certain clothes, which I discovered while cleaning out my closet recently. Certain things like gifts, or what I wore on our first date with me and my husband, etc.. I have trouble getting rid of!

Oh you are so not alone. I have the same problem...I also include the, "But if I need to wear it one day" reasoning haha
ReplyDeleteyou're definitely not alone. i sometimes put clothes i am thinking of getting rid of in the basement, and a few months later, i look again. if i still want to get rid of them, i do.
ReplyDeleteOh, I get very emotionally attached to my clothes! To me, they are worth keeping if I love...but of course I actually wear the clothes I love!
ReplyDeleteI do the same thing!!! I'm a pack rat when it comes to clothes and find just about any reason to justify keeping something, especially when the tags are still on... Oops!
ReplyDeleteStory of my life. It's why my closet continues to grow. I can't let go of things because I always think, "what if...".
ReplyDeleteI think it's because I've had pieces of clothing that I've rediscovered I now refuse to throw anything away... even when I really should.

I always keep clothes around for way too long....I either think it's going to come back in style or that I will fit in to it again "someday". Glad you didn't toss that sweater either, that off white looks good on you.
ReplyDeleteThat's the only thing I'm super attached to... clothes! I cant get rid of them!
ReplyDeleteNice outfit!!
ReplyDeleteI rarely have an emotional attachment to clothing. If it doesn't fit, it goes! I have a bit harder time getting rid of shoes though, just in case!
That sweater was the perfect thing to save!!! It's definitely back in style. I think having an emotional attachment to clothes is completely normal!
ReplyDeleteI hang on to everything...I might need it...or it might come back in style...or my daughter might want it one day...:)
ReplyDeleteI do the same thing!! It will be a shirt or something my Mom gave me, and I think, oh sure I'll wear this sometime, though I probably never will. And it might just be something she just thought I would like and would care less if I got rid of it. You are definitely not alone.
