Needy baby . . . Needy mama
The week before Thanksgiving was a rough week for us in the Vale house. After Chris being sick for many days, Addilyn must have caught his bad cold. We had about five days in a row of coughing, snotty nose, tears, fussiness, and sleepless nights. One night I think I got about two hours of broken up sleep. That night I moved from laying next to her rock n play to the recliner on the couch, back to the rock n play and then to the bed in hopes of keeping her asleep for more than an hour.
We had cancelled plans, and long days in our house. It's amazing how only five days of not going anywhere or connecting with anyone can leave you feeling quite lonely and unproductive. I called my sister one afternoon and started crying. I felt tired and was sad because Chris was going to be gone for the evening and I was feeling anxious about another rough night. I felt like I hadn't done anything productive in days. I then felt like a baby myself, feeling like I should be able to handle a sick baby better. I know I'll have many more days ahead like this and was feeling like I shouldn't be having a hard time with this, as I know there will be harder and sicker days to come.
My wise sister told me that I was doing something so important these last few days. I was loving on, taking care of and doing whatever my sick baby needed. Which when you put it that way is an accomplishment. She told me that it's okay to be crying, to think this is hard and okay to need extra help. That needy babies mean needy moms.
I have a new compassion for moms dealing with sick kids. I want to bring them a coffee, give them a hug and tell them the same encouragement Lauren gave me. That sick babies are hard, everything else can wait, and that you are doing a great job.
:-( Doesn't sound fun……I hope everyone is on the mend!!!

Love you sweet friend :) Wish I could have brought you a coffee & loved on little miss Addilyn for a bit so you could catch some zzzz's !!!
ReplyDeleteawww hope she feels better!! We have all had the stomach bug this week...and of course NO ONE at the same that would be crazy lol. As a mom I will never be ok with vomit...I literally begged my husband like a small child not to go to work and leave me alone.lol
ReplyDeleteSmart sister you have :)
Poor baby. Poor mama. Our entire family battled a nasty stomach bug ALL weekend. It started Friday night with Ethan, and within an hour of him getting physically sick, Gabe and I were both sick. The husband? Working 3rd shift. It was so hard, such a tough night. The sickies are the worst...to watch them so helplessly and to lose the sleep when we already lose a good bit!
ReplyDeleteYou are a terrific mother and are doing all the right things for your very cute and sweet daughter. Its tough, a lot of the time, I'm right there with you! But you are making it, in fact you are thriving! I'm cheering you on always!
ReplyDeleteIt's in the air... literally. Klair and I are sick right now too. I can absolutely relate to this post! It's so hard on so many levels to have a sick baby. I feel like the worst part is my inability to take it away from her. She is miserable and I can only do so much to help her... yet she doesn't understand why she's feeling this way, and I can't soothe her with "you'll feel better soon" because she wouldn't understand it. It's so heartbreaking to see her sick! I hope that you and your sweet baby girl get feeling better soon!
ReplyDeletemy son has his first cold right now :( its so hard to watch them in pain and be sick! i wish snuggles cured it all right up! xxo
ReplyDeleteI love that! "Needy babies mean needy moms." I even have those days when my kids aren't sick. Hang in there sweet mama.
ReplyDeleteI think it sounds like you're doing an amazing job! I don't think there is a person in the world that would think spending every hour a day taking care of and worrying about a sick baby is easy! Hope the little one feels better soon x
ReplyDeletetaking care of sick kids must be tough but addilyn is so fortunate to have a mom like you to care so much for her!
ReplyDeleteIt's that time of year for the sickies...poor baby..I hope everyone is feeling much better. And you did exactly what a great mommy would do for her needy baby girl.
ReplyDeleteIt's still very hard for me when my kids (and husband) are sick. I feel so restricted when I can't go anywhere or do anything. Not to mention the lack of sleep. Those are the most anxious times for me. So glad you have your sister to encourage you :)
ReplyDeleteYou ARE doing a great job! Well done There have been many tears in our house and probably more to come, I think it's all par for the course :) Keep up the great work, Addilyn is so blessed to have you x
ReplyDeletenone of that changes as they get older, either....i hope you're all feeling better!
ReplyDeleteYou have a very wise sister - but we already knew that. And you ARE doing an outstanding job being a mom.
ReplyDeleteAwwwww :) Such a good mom!
ReplyDeleteYour sister is a wise lady. :)
ReplyDeleteReally good advice. We are dealing with that same cold over here. It should be against nature for Mom's to get sick!
