Pregnant Questions of an 8 Year Old

shirt: old navy   blazer: c/o wendybox   pants: H&M maternity   shoes: shoe carnival

I've had a few interesting conversations with my students about being pregnant, but this one definitely takes the cake for the funniest and most awkward.

Mrs. Vale, when is that baby coming?
In about 13 weeks.
Did you get the thing you get when you're pregnant?
What thing?
You know where you vomit?
Yes. I was sick at the beginning but I feel really good now.
So are you thinking about doing that whole breastfeeding thing?
Cue embarrassed teacher and attempt to think quickly.
Um, yes. Most moms do that.
So what. You think you'll do that for about 18 months or so.
Okay, time to get back to work.

And within 30 seconds half my class had heard from another that he asked me about breastfeeding.  Let's just hope this wasn't a topic of conversation at multiple dinner tables that night.

High Five for Friday

tee: old navy  dress: maybe forever 21

1.  This skirt is actually a dress.  A dress that I haven't worn for years because it seemed to dressy.  I'm proud of myself for figuring out how to wear it again.

2.  If tying your shirt ever goes out of style (which I can only imagine it will do someday) about one third of my outfit posts will turn from trendy to "What was I thinking"?
See here, here and here.
Let's just hope that's not for awhile.

3.  My birthday isn't too far away (November 2nd) and it is always nice to think of presents ahead of time.  And by nice, I guess I really mean fun.
While I do own lots of jewelry, I own very few pieces of really nice, quality jewelry and I think I would like something like these beautiful diamond hoop earrings.

4. One of my google search terms this week that led someone to my blog was "american eagle tiger tank top."  I should be embarrassed to bring that up again, but it made me feel like just maybe this tank top was still cool.   I guess it all depends on the person who was searching it though.

5.   I have received many strange notes from parents, but this by far takes the cake.

6. Bonus number: Make sure to check out Carly's giveaway from yesterday.
($10 giftcard to Sephora and ad space!)

After being in a classroom that was 85 degrees today, with no hope of cooling off tomorrow, I am more than ready for a long weekend.
Happy almost Friday!

You're growing on me

pants: loft  shoes: kohls  shirt: old navy cardigan: maurices

Although the stresses of school can easily get to me, especially at the end of the year, I am thankful for stories like these that remind me why I love my job.

The other day a student was helping me "inspect" students' passports as we did a simulation of what it might have been like for immigrants coming to America.  Despite a student's missing information on his passport, I let him go through because he looked overly nervous and I didn't want to make him cry.

When he walked away I said to my student helper that I thought I'd let that one slide by because I was feeling extra nice.

She leaned over to me and said,
"Mrs. Vale, you're really starting to grow on me."

With only a month left of school, I guess it's about time.

Wrong side of the bed

Dress: JCPenney   Blazer:  Target (years old)      Boots: Kohls

(50 degrees in Chicago in January?)

Today I had to talk to a student because she had made fun of another student during recess.  When I asked her why she did it she replied, "It's just that I forgot that I woke up on the wrong side of the bed this morning. I really didn't mean to be rude, it's just that waking up on the wrong side of the bed kind of made me do things I know aren't right."  And then she said sorry and gave her a hug.

I think I need to start using "I just woke up on the wrong side of the bed" for any mistakes I make during the day.

My Molly wanted in on some of the pictures too.

Oh to be 8 . . . .

Somehow my follower problem was solved, and then broke again! I have no idea what is going on! I was seriously upset this morning when I thought my followers had been lost! Hopefully it will all be fixed soon!

Today this was a conversation I had with some of my students who came in from recess in absolute hysterics. It took over 5 minutes to try to get the girls to stop crying enough to get anything out. Turns out they were hysterical because of their guilty conscience.

Me: "Can one of you tell me what happened?"
Student: "Well, last week Conner asked if he could come to my birthday party and I told him he could if I could control him at recess for one week. And so he's done whatever I've said until today when he didn't want to play soccer."

Turns out the girls then tackled Conner for not letting them "control him." Needless to say we had lots to talk about. Wow . . . . the life an eight year old is rough.
