A special name
Up until our baby girl was here I still had a hard time saying that we knew for sure what we would name her. I feel like naming your child comes with a lot of pressure. You get one name and you want it to be perfect. For over ten years I was convinced that if I had a daughter I would name her Sophia. I had loved the name forever and pictured us with a Sophia. But when we found out we were having a girl the name Sophia was so popular. Sophia, Sofia, and Sophie were all on the top ten or twenty names for last year. Not that I needed a super original name but I also didn't want the most popular name either.
One night when we were laying in bed looking through girls' names Chris found Addilyn and we both loved it. It took us awhile to decide on the spelling but since we wanted to call her Addi we loved Addilyn.
I love that Addilyn means noble. But I love the meaning of her middle name more. My middle name is Jane after my grandma, who I never got to meet. Growing up my dad has always told similarities between me and his mom and I love that I am named after her and love passing that name on to my daughter.
Jane means God is gracious or God's gracious gift, which couldn't be more true. Our sweet baby girl is a long awaited gift from God. As soon as I held Addilyn I felt like her name was perfect.
P.S. The sweet and talented Lauren from My Polished Side made and sent us this adorable chalkboard sign. She has the cutest things in her etsy shop, Sweet Pea's Party and is giving you 10% off your order using the code katie10. Thank you SO much Lauren! We LOVE the sign and are going to hang this on Addilyn's closet door.
LOVE hearing the story behind Addilyn's name! it's SO beautiful! and i love that her middle name is so special. <3
ReplyDeleteI love her name and its really nice that it has special meaning to you. Cute sign too!
ReplyDeleteher name is precious! thank you for sharing the story! also, she looks bigger! even though i've only seen pictures :) so so happy for you!
ReplyDeleteLove hearing the meaning behind people's names. I'm named after both of my grandmothers (first and middle name)
ReplyDeleteMy mom had no idea what she'd call me until I got here.
The most important part for her was that it wasn't too difficult to spell. Too many people name their children ridiculous names that no-one including their child can pronounce or spell
Love the sign!! Beautiful name!!
ReplyDeleteHer name is precious, just like she is. Our Katie commented right away that she loved the spelling!
ReplyDeletebeautiful name, and jane is my favorite name.
ReplyDeleteyou have such a beautiful little girl.
K
love the name.
ReplyDeleteThat's such a sweet name! And a sweet story. My daughter's middle name is a family tradition dating back I-don't-know-how-many generations, so I love names with a history behind them.
ReplyDeleteWe named you Katie even though it was getting popular way back then. Your papa really wanted a KATIE, not Kathryn or Kathleen. And I love that both my granddaughters have Jane for their middle name!
ReplyDeleteI love this and I love her name :) so precious!
ReplyDeleteI love when names have special meaning. :) Especially a name for a gift that y'all waited for so long. :)
ReplyDeleteI love her name. It's beautiful and what a sweet meaning. Coincidently, Bryce's name means "son of a noble man". See they are meant to get married!
ReplyDeletePS. I don't think I realized how dark of hair Addilyn had until that last pic above.
I loved hearing the story behind her name! Naming a child is such a huge responsibility! I think you guys did an awesome job. :)
ReplyDeleteWhen I was pregnant with Amelia, we had her name picked out almost right away. And then it seemed like EVERYONE started naming their daughters Amelia. It was crazy!
Addilyn Jane is a beautiful name! And your baby girl is just adorable.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE hearing the stories behind people's names... and this sweet baby girl certainly has a special one!

We have already picked out a boy's name and a girl's name! We find out in a few weeks which one we will be using. I love Addi's name and I love the way you chose it and the significance of the middle name - we are using family names for middle names as well.

ReplyDeleteThis made me tear up. All throughout scripture you can see people were named with a purpose and that there was so much meaning behind the names...I love the meaning of her names. So special!

I love the spelling and the meaning!
ReplyDeleteI'm always surprised when people decide for sure long in advance what to name their kids and then stick to it--there's definitely a lot of thought that goes into the process! For now, I say that we'll give our children a less common name than Rachel and not quite such an unusual name as Angel. Somewhere right in the middle would be nice, I think! :)
ReplyDeleteI love hearing how you picked the name and I think it is beautifuL!
