If we had coffee

top: old navy      skirt: target    shoes: asos     necklace: veryjane

If we had coffee together I'd tell you that I miss drinking my coffee while it's hot.  And I miss drinking it from a mug with a closed top like I'd bring to school everyday.  Which seems a little silly but is part of a routine that I miss.
I'd tell you that last week was rough.  I felt like we were back at week two in terms of sleeping and figuring Addilyn out.  I know parenting will forever be a pattern of ups and downs, but combined with our first little cold, some other life stresses and hormones, it was a hard week.  I felt like I got nothing productive done and had to remind myself that some days or weeks my one job is to be Addilyn's mom and that I accomplished.
I'd tell you that I am working on cherishing little moments like when I was rocking Addilyn to sleep, praying for the kind of girl she will be.  A girl that loves others and loves the Lord.  As I was praying and her eyes were drifting to sleep, I got that little smile and my heart felt so happy and grateful to be her mom.
I'd tell you that I've never had a pumpkin spice latte and am not a huge fan of pumpkin flavors.  And that feels like a blogger requirement that I just won't pass.
I'd tell you that I felt that a champion when we put Addilyn down in her bed for the first time (still her bed next to ours) so we could stay up by ourselves for an hour or so before I went to bed.  Only to have her wake up twenty minutes later as if she was ready to play.  Bummer.

I'd also tell you that while I have a hard time finding time to blog, it a piece of normalcy that I enjoy.  I wish I had more time to read and respond to blogs and comments and hope that sometime when we get into a routine I will.

  1. Some weeks are like that, that is for sure. Hope she is feeling better. It is hard when they don't feel well and can't verbally communicate! And, while I've had pumpkin spice lattes...not a huge fan...way too sweet! And, now that I can't have cow's milk nor soy...not sure Starbucks will be a priority. LOL Something I learned when my girls were little is that they don't like cold sheets! We had (well, still do) a little bear that you can heat in the microwave (think it is filled with buck wheat) for a minute and I would place it in the crib to warm the sheets. I took it out before putting them down.

  5. First of all - you look great! The back and forth with babies is hard. As soon as you've got one schedule figured out, they totally change it up on you. Good luck!

  6. I'm not even a mom yet, and I'm still having a hard time with finding time to blog. I'm trying to find a nice routine, but it will take some time. I'm sure the same goes for you too. Hope this week is much better for you!

  7. I love you and your honesty. I wish we could have coffee in real life. :)

  8. I'm not a fan of pumpkin either. I like pumpkin cookies and that's about it.

I hope you get your routine soon. It's always hard to adjust to a new normal.

  9. Oh Katie, it is OK! Really, some days (weeks) are rough. And you are doing great just being Addilyn's mom. I have to constantly remind myself that this is the most important thing I can do during the day. CONSTANTLY. Because sometimes it is all you can do and even though you devote all your time to it you still feel like a failure. (But you are NOT)

Also, I still drink my coffee out of a closed lid double steel walled travel mug because it keeps it hot for hours. And it takes me hours to finish it between running after and feeding children

  10. "Had to remind myself that some days or weeks my one job is to be Addilyn's mom and that I accomplished". Gosh, that statement is so true and something I am trying to accept as well w/ Bryce on the days I feel like I have accomplished nothing! PS. Glad to know I'm not the only one in the world who hasn't tried a Pumpkin latte;)

  13. I'm impressed with how much blogging you have done, so inspiring. Coffee doesn't taste good at all now, and I miss drinking it on my way to work :( Also, please know I will be praying for you-for your sweet girl's sleep, and for you to feel confidant as a mother.

  15. Being a mom is extremely hard work and extremely time consuming. As time passes though, you will find your groove and it will free up a little time for you. Some weeks as a parent are just hard. It's a big responsibility and coupled with all the other responsibilities us women have,it can be overwhelming. Hang int here sweetie!!!

Just FYI, I tried a Pumpkin Spiced Latte last Fall because the Blog World insisted I should. I was NOT a fan!!! You are not alone!

  16. I also do not enjoy pumpkin things either. I can't get past the smell. You are an amazing mom to Addilyn. Some days you will feel on top of the world and other days you will feel like you can do nothing right but at that moment when you are about to completely break they do something like smile or coo to remind you that maybe just maybe you will survive.

  17. You're doing a great job! I like your post. Coffee is my favorite beverage. Kopi luwak is best in all coffee beans.

  18. You are doing a great job and you look fabulous! It takes a lot of time to establish a routine and then the baby will change it again. Pray a lot and go with the flow. My baby is 12 and I would give my right arm to rock her at 2am(: Blessings. Susan

  19. I often feel like I get nothing accomplished except being my kiddos mama, And then I remind myself that being their mama is enough. And it is, Addilyn is so blessed to have such a wise, loving, devoted mother, And you are doing a wonderful job, And, your lack of enthusiasm for pumpkin makes me question if we are really related....

  20. Hi Katie, I hope Addilyn is feeling much better and over her cold. She looks so adorable sleeping while you rock her. Thanks for stopping by my blog, I was going to say even before I read the last part of your post..your a new mom and it's ok if you don't have time to read or comment on blogs :) Also I think you should drink your coffee in your mug that you would normally take to work everyday. By the way your doing a GREAT job!!!!

  23. Hugs! There will be tough days, weeks and possibly months but you will get through it. Soon they will be a blur that you can barely remember.

I remember one particularly tough day when A was about 4 weeks old and thinking to myself "Is this really what my life has become?" I was so upset at the time, trying unsuccessfully to make my baby happy. I miss those newborn snuggles though and would give anything to get one of those days back where all I really needed to do was hug and hold her all day long.

You may want to start drinking your coffee in a covered cup again- A spilled my coffee so many times! Thankfully it was always cold, since I rarely drink hot coffee anymore!

  24. I am so amazed that you've been continuing to blog this whole time! I hope Addilyn settles into a sleep pattern and you're able to get more sleep too!

I like the pumpkin spice lattes but they're not my favorite Starbucks drink :)

  28. I think you are doing the best you can at getting back into routine...and being a great mamma...because of you, I have no doubt she will grow to be the kindest little girl :)

  29. If we had coffee together I'd tell you what a great job you're doing as a mommy. I'd tell you that some days the only job you'll get done is being a mommy, and that's ok.
I'd also tell you that the first year might be the most challenging. You're both still learning about each other, and that's ok, too.
Cheers to a good cup of coffee.

  30. You are already doing a great job as a mom, Katie!

  31. No pumpkin spice lattes for me either. Although I do love pumpkin, I don't love coffee. Crazy, I know! I miss blogging regularly too, but I am thoroughly being home with my kids more and volunteering at the school. Wish we were close enough to have coffee (or tea, for me) :) XO

  32. I don't at all expect you to have time to blog! Good grief, lady. That being said, I will tell you that I don't really like Starbucks at all. So I'm right there with you on the blogging fail :)
