sweets and social media
Lately I've realized that there are two things that I probably legitimately have an addiction to. And that I just may need to do something about.
Sweets and social media.
I do not think there is anything wrong with eating sweets and have no desire to rid them from my diet. However, I do think that I eat too much of them and embarrassingly think about sweets all the time. Like the second I'm done eating a meal (even breakfast) or when I am bored walking around in circles soothing Addilyn. I do believe that I'd probably have more energy and feel better about myself if I ate healthier. I don't think I eat that unhealthy in general, but sweets are no doubt my downfall. Before getting pregnant I worked out every day which definitely balanced my dessert intake and with not working out close to every day I definitely need to eat less desserts.
And then there's social media. It's like I am antsy if I don't check my phone every twenty minutes or so. Like I need to see how many people "liked" my last instagram picture or if I got any more emails or comments on my blog post. It's as if I have to read them or see them right away or they may not be there when I check later. It's really quite ridiculous.
Since having Addilyn I spend way more time on my phone. I look at it when I'm nursing her or when she's sleeping on me. And even check it often when she's playing with me on the floor. I definitely don't think there is anything wrong with social media or using it and I have no desire to stop using it altogether, but I think I need to be more mindful of my time. Or more so how it affects my attitude since I end up doing lots of comparing, judging and assuming when I read through social media.
I don't know what this looks like with either of these, I just know that I need to work on them. I want all these things in moderation and know that I am currently using both too much.
Now please tell me you can relate? Because I really don't understand people who say that aren't "dessert" people. Is that really possible?
As for your addictions, we might be twins seperated at birth. I'm honestly at the point where I'm praying about the social media because if it's coming before my family and God it's definitely a proble. :(
ReplyDeleteI am also a lover of sweets and social media. You may say that I'm addicted :) I try to stay away from both, or at least use them in moderation, but some days it's not that easy, especially when I am hanging out around the house, like today.
ReplyDeleteJust yesterday, I moved my computer upstairs--because I know from experience that when it's less accessible, I won't waste time with it, I'll just get on and do what needs to be done. For me, making internet not-too-easily accessible is a good cure!
ReplyDeleteHowever, I don't really like sweet things too much--I love the salty stuff! That's my weakness.
I totally know what you mean, on both accounts, And I can relate to the search for moderation, rather than total abstinence. In the last few years I have done a few "fasts" from both things, and it's helped me be more mindful and intentional in how I use them. But, its something I have to keep coming back to, because it is something of an addiction.
ReplyDeleteMy phone is definitely my go-to and I definitely already feel guilty for the time I spend on it. Everything's good in moderation :)
ReplyDeleteRight there w/ ya on both of those things. Ugh! Why do they both have to be so good and fun!?
ReplyDeleteI became addicted to two things while nursing; social media and netflix. I mean, don't get me wrong, I cherished every second I was nursing him. But I mean come on, you do it SO often, you can only stare at them for so long! ha
ReplyDeleteI am not a cookie or cake person but give me brownies(I ate a whole pan by myself this weekend) and any kind of home made bread and I will think of little else in life. I agree with social media, I spend way too much time on it but I really don't see that changing anytime soon.
ReplyDeleteSeriously, I was just saying the same thing. I swear BFing makes people crave sweets!! It's crazy. And I would be lost without my phone with nursing and cuddling Delainey!
ReplyDeleteI appreciate your openness. I can relate to the social media thing, and I agree, since Gabe was born, I am on my phone while nursing him (I actually JUST started leaving my phone in the other room for middle-of-the-night feedings.), and far too often while both boys are awake. I started disabling notifications for Facebook and Twitter, and then, I continued to find myself checking them BECAUSE I wasn't getting notifications. Sigh. Gosh, this is turning into a blog post. ;) But anyway, I can relate. It sucks you in! :\
ReplyDeleteI'm definitely addicted to sweets. Like, as in, I had 2 pieces of chocolate about 30 mins after breakfast today :) I found that I used to be on my phone a lot..things like that, but now I have a "set time" for social media and all that good stuff. It helps keep me sane!!
ReplyDeleteMy brother and Jordan are two people who really aren't dessert people. They love savory things! But yes, I can totally relate.
ReplyDeleteGirl. I do the same thing with social media! I e been trying so hard to not use it so much but it is just so hard. I definitely don't want my daughter to always think of mommy with a phone in front of her face ya know? As for the sweets...I'm totally with you there too!
ReplyDeleteMy husband isn't a dessert person. We are polar opposites in this regard. He doesn't even like ice cream! This is probably his biggest flaw.
ReplyDeleteI definitely understand where you are coming from though. All good things in moderation is a good mantra to live by, if you can somehow pin down exactly what "moderation" looks like...
Pff.. how can anyone not be a dessert person! :)
ReplyDeleteI try not to check my phone or computer when Micha is around me, but I don't always succeed, so I definitely know what you mean!
I relate to this SO much. I've been living in another country on my own so I check social media wayyyy too much. I feel like there are so many other things I could be doing to better my time, but at the same time, it's difficult to not want to be connected to people all the time.
ReplyDeleteAnd the desserts? Don't get me started. How can you not be a dessert person?!
I totally relate to both of these, the sweets thing I never intend to change! The social media, I try to minimise, much easier said than done. Especially when nursing!
ReplyDeleteFor me, it's if my computer is around. If I'm out, I'll check emails during activity lulls. I'll take pictures with my phone, but rarely post them. It's my computer being open, sitting on the counter (I need an office!) that tempts me to check all social media. I deleted FB from my phone (again) because it's just pointless to me right now.
ReplyDeleteAs for sweets...I think workouts balance things out nicely.
I totally relate to the social media addiction! I feel disconnected from the world if I'm not constantly checking it!

OH yes i can absolutely relate on both of these!! I am addicted to both. my social media addiction is really bad. I was in a meeting for 30 minutes and couldn't check my phone and freaked out!
ReplyDeleteare we the same person?! 1st - I have a huge addiction to sweet... its a problem, I HAVE to have them. And my roomie looks at me like I'm a crazy person! 2nd I started nannying this little baby, My phone is at 40% 2 hours into being with him because I am always on it. And i am not even being productive, just looking at the same thing over & over! Uh, soul mates! haha!!! Heres to a day of chocolate & Instagram!

Haha. You may hate me - I am not a dessert person but lately - I think for me getting older I have been drawn more to candy. I eat WAY too much and stalk instagram. You are not alone lady.

ReplyDeleteKatie, I can totally relate to the social media addiction; especially when I'm nursing Nathaniel or he's sleeping on me. I nursed my other two children with no social media and probably had more quality time with them. Not to say I don't with Nathaniel, but it's definitely an easier distraction. My phone is right there so... I'm challenging myself to leave my phone somewhere else or something.
ReplyDeleteI totally love sweets!!!!!! Since Christmas is coming up we are now starting to get lots of chocolate at work and it's impossible to resist. I find that if i'm around my computer that i am always inclined to check facebook and my email. It's the new norm. Great casual look.

I can totally relate! On both counts! My phone dings every time I get a new email, and I have this uncontrollable urge to check it immediately! Or I'll post a photo on my IG (and share to FB), and immediately hop over to my FB to see if anyone liked it over there... I blame it on my lack of adult interaction. And sweets, they're just delicious.
ReplyDeleteI'm not a dessert person (sorry!) but I do have an addiction to chips and salsa!
ReplyDeleteI am the same way with sweets! I've been working hard to find low points(I'm on weight watchers) options that I'm satisfied with. Big fan of some fruit snacks. From what I've seen a lot of store brand ones are pretty good.
ReplyDeleteI am right there with you on the social media part. I think as bloggers that is what we do...so much of our lives revolve around it. I feel naked without my phone and do the exact same thing...trying to get better about it. :)
ReplyDeleteHappy 2 years!!! I've loved getting to know you through blog land!
