Being brave

I shared last week that I want to head into 2015 as a Mighty Warrior, ready for whatever God has in store for me.  This book has been a wonderful motivator to do just that.  To live life bravely, and to embrace your passions, fears and whatever God is calling you to do.  Over and over challenging you to be brave.

I started thinking of ways I was brave this last year.

- signing up and running the Chicago marathon
- bringing Addilyn to the church nursery over and over despite lots of tears and only small progress
- making new friends and continually being the initiator in many of my friendships
- being honest and sharing my life on my blog
- trusting that God will provide for us financially with Chris' job, and staying home with Addilyn

Then ways I want to be brave this year.

- get back into working out at the Y and taking Addilyn to the childcare there.
- volunteer and get more involved in one of my church's ministries
- continue to initiate friendships
- read more books that challenge me
- join a Mom's group
- go away overnight without Addilyn
- step outside my comfort zone and openly share my faith with two of my close friends

The thing is I know some of these would not mean bravery to some people.  Going away overnight without their babies or dropping their kids off at a gym child care wouldn't be a huge deal for some, but those sound hard to be.  They make me anxious and uncomfortable.  I can get weary when it comes to being the initiator in my friendships, but I know it's worth it and I want to keep doing it.  Bravery looks different for everyone, and another way I want to be brave is to stop comparing myself to other people.  Whether it's to their goals, what's easy or hard for them, how they look, or how successful they are.  I fully believe the saying comparison is the thief of joy and I want to keep all my joy and work on pushing myself to be brave.

How will you be brave this year?

  1. I love that you are trying really hard to be the "initiator" in friendships...that's something I'm really trying to be great at this year. :) good luck w/ every one of your brave goals. I believe in you!

  2. I need to be better at being the initiator in my friendships. I really enjoyed my MOPs group in Colorado. You will find an enjoyable mix of ladies. Also they will totally understand if you aren't comfortable putting Addi in the nursery right away.

  3. Oh man I can relate to being brave with leaving your child. I still get anxious when I have to leave Kendall in childcare at my MOPS group. She cries the most there and it just breaks my heart. I get nervous every meeting walking down the hall. And yes, I definitely believe you were brave in running that marathon. I think it is incredible what you did and I look up to you a lot for that and so many other reasons. You are one strong and brave lady!

  5. Katie, I want you to know how much you have inspired me. I'm trying to be brave as we enter this new year and trust God. ..with our family's future- - financialy, sleep wise, and that He will help me find my way as a mom. I'm also going to lose the weight. ..finally. I haven't really lost weight in over ten years so I'm finding myself scared...I'm afraid I'll fail. But I'm being brave and doing all that I can anyway.

  6. Good for you for being more brave! It can definitely be scary and it is something that I need to work on, too. With our upcoming move, so many things scare me. I need to be brave and put myself out there and make new friends and discover new places and all of that freaks me out! Good luck with your journey. Your list of goals is great and I am certain you can accomplish all of them!

  7. I love this Katie. We all have different things we need to hand over to God and be brave about, no matter how big or small they all matter. Love you friend, lets meet one day soon! XO and I need to read this book!

  8. I'm wanting to be more brave with my Lemongrass business! :) I absolutely lovee the products so much that I just want to share them with everyone! I start to second guess myself, feeling like everyone thinks I'm just out to make a sale, which is totally not the case! I would hand samples to everyone I meet if I could; maybe someday I'll be able to afford to! :) So being brave: I want to stop worrying about people saying "no" to me. I've taken it as a personal offense in the past, when really I need to just move on! I don't know everyone's situation and their reason for not being interested; and honestly, I don't need to know!
