Cheapskates

scarf: diy (easy tutorial here)   sweater & boots: old navy   pants: kohls

I've talked numerous times about how cheap I can be.  Which can come in handy for shopping.  Like how I got these boots last year for under $10 or these pants for under $5.

But being cheap definitely came with a few challenges when we got married, as Chris was the opposite of cheap and didn't think twice about spending more money. Thankfully we've both learned a little from each other and have balanced each other out.  He's learned the art of saving money and I've learned how to enjoy things like going out to dinner or a movie.

I kind of think if I married someone more like myself I may land myself a role on the TLC show Cheapskates.  Who are the extreme of being cheap.  Like not using toilet paper and making your own deodorant cheap.  Or only getting furniture from dumpsters kind of cheap.  It's one of those shows that is so disturbing you can't not watch it.  And I really don't think I could ever go to those extremes.

Although in college we did do our share of dumpster diving runs to Krispie Kreme donuts.  And believed we hit the jackpot when we'd find full packaged boxes of donuts that could fill up our trunk.

And I wish I could say that we only ate donuts that were in nicely packaged boxes, but that would be a lie. On the occasion we would grab the defect bag of donuts and we may have eaten those too.  I think the Cheapskate producers should start visiting some college campuses for new candidates for the show.

The bigger the better

sweater: c/o choies    necklace: groopdealz   boots: dsw    sunglasses: c/o  firmoo

I feel like in the Winter bigger is definitely better when it comes to getting dressed.  Like this poncho sweatshirt. Big and comfy is a win in my book.

Now when it comes to sunglasses I know the style is the bigger the better but I'm a little unsure about pulling off the really big sunglass trend.  I recently received these sunglasses from Firmoo and they looked so cute on the bloggers that reviewed them before that I was excited about trying them out.

I do really like them, but am honestly a little unsure about pulling them off.  It doesn't help that we haven't had a sunny day in weeks to really feel the need to use them.  Perhaps a little sunshine would make them feel more appropriate.  Come on spring!

I am normally a $5 sunglass kind of girl and have never owned a nicer pair of glasses until now.  I'm kind of excited about not having to buy at least three or four pairs of sunglasses a year because they are so cheap.  I have to say that I am not sure why I haven't tried out Firmoo before as you can get your first pair for free.  You can also use their virtual try on system so that you can see what they will look like before you get them.

Although true sunglass season seems so far away, I will be pulling these out any time there are a few rays of sun until real summer arrives!

Lately . . . .

Wearing:  a $15 dress I found at Ross and enjoying the chance to dress up.

Thankful for: a good friend's wedding last weekend and a chance to see my best friends from childhood. My blurry pictures included.

Enduring: a little sleep training for Addilyn and feeling a little anxious about it.

Reading: a few new blogs, like The Ausam Life..

Watching: the Bachelor.  It's embarrassing how excited I am that it's back on.  However I am so far unimpressed with it.  Which by no means equates with me no longer watching it.

Excited to: put up my few Valentine's Day decorations.  After the depression of taking down all Christmas decorations, it's nice to have something to replace them with.

Surprised that: my baby girl turned six months old this week.  I can't believe Addilyn has been in our life for half of a year.

Dreading her: six month shots on Monday.

Slightly disappointed: that this was the best picture I could get on her six month birthday.  Hello little drama queen? We will have to try again.

Happy weekend friends!

Thankful board

I'm super happy because I have completed one of my New Years' resolutions.  I have been wanting to do something to continue our Thanksgiving tradition of making a list of things we're thankful for and decided to make a little bulletin board for Addilyn's room.  Now each night before we put her to bed we think of one thing we are thankful for that day.   I love how it turned out and love our new nightly routine.
cork tiles: Target ($5)
letters: Target ($1)
paper: Hobby Lobby ($3)
paint: Hobby Lobby ($2)
I used the top of another paint bottle to make the polka dots on the corkboard.  I had to fill them in a little with the paint brush/sponge.
I used a hot glue gun to glue the letters to the string.
I figured I'd use one scrap paper for each week.  I plan on keeping each of the weeks' thankful lists and making a little book of all of them.
Hooray for one resolution down!
