. . . for Lauren and Lauren: Mom Fail

Mom Fail

I know I am not alone, but five months into motherhood and I've had my share of mommy fail moments. Like the first time Addilyn cried a real hurt cry was because I jammed my finger in her mouth when I was getting her dressed and she turned her head really fast.  Or the time (or two) that I locked her in my car.

I know I am not alone in my imperfect mom moments, but it's impossible to not feel a little bit of guilt in those situations.

One of the first stressful failing mom moments I had was when we went to our first fancier event as a family of three. We were going to Chris' cousins wedding when Addilyn was about two months.  I of course had been out many times and to many places, but this was our first "big" event and the longest we were gone for, plus we were about forty five minutes from home.
It took us much longer to get ready, but that I was prepared for and we got there on time.  It was a little cold and rainy so Chris dropped me off at the front door with Addilyn and met us inside.  When he came inside without the diaper bag I sent him back to the car to get it, and to our complete disappointment we realized we didn't have it.  No diapers, wipes, toys, blankets, nursing cover, burp cloth or sweater for Addilyn who was dressed in a sleeveless dress.

Major mom fail.

I of course cried because I pictured having Addilyn in the same diaper for seven hours, with spit up all over her and me having to nurse with my non-nursing friendly dress in front a million people. Post partum hormones added to my feelings of course.
With no time to go home, thank goodness there was a CVS down the street where Chris ran there quickly and bought a pack of diapers, wipes and some wash clothes for burp clothes and our evening ended up being just fine.  Addilyn had no clue that we were completely unprepared.
With the holidays here it is really easy for me to stress out about the littlest things and having a baby definitely makes coordinating, planning and being prepared a whole lot harder.  It's a good thing we're surrounded by stores like CVS so that I know if I ever forget our diaper bag with everything we need in it again, I don't have to panic quite as much.
Thankfully with diapers like Pampers I know that Addilyn's cute Christmas outfits are protected from diaper leaks and blow outs.  Plus my favorite thing is that their diapers have the little indicator line on them that turns blue when they are full so you don't waste diapers changing them before you need too.

Being laid back and relaxing are far from second nature to me, so it's probably a good thing for me to learn that things like forgetting our diaper are far from catastrophes.

Going into this holiday week I'm going to do my best to have our diaper bag full of quality diapers and wipes like Pampers, but am going to remember that I'm bound to forget something and a quick trip to a CVS and making due with what we have will get us through just fine!

We are staying at my Mom's house this Christmas and luckily my sister and her family are here too! My sister has a little one so I know that if I forgot anything she probably has it and vice versa. That definitely helps me relax a bit. Plus, like you CVS and Walgreens are very close to us, so we can get whatever we need. Our first trip here with Kendall we forgot her nighttime diapers and had to run down the street to get some. So knowing I have my sister and stores close by keeps me sane! Merry Christmas!

It's my first Christmas with my 5 week old baby so I'm still figuring out how to relax. I did buy most of my gifts online to avoid the stress of the stores

Katie,
I've read your blog for a while now, but the sponsored posts are confusing me! Earlier this week you loved Walgreens, but now you are posting about CVS. Which one is it?I'm starting to think you only "love" these places because you are getting paid to.

@akdjf Thank you for reading! Thankfully this month I've been able to work with a few different companies, reviewing and sharing about totally different products like diapers and stocking stuffers. And just like I love Target, I also love Kohls and Old Navy. Luckily that doesn't mean I'm stuck only shopping at one store!

I've been making lots of lists and asking for help. I'm a perfectionist but I'm trying to relax, delegate and ask for help this holiday season. In the past I've wanted everything to be perfect, but now I'm just trying to soak in every moment of my baby's first Christmas and enjoy the holiday season with loved ones.

I start getting ready days before an event so that I don't have to rush!

If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all!
Don't let it get to you, Katie! (Easier said than done...)
I can't even count how many times I've forgotten diapers in the past few years! However, I bring the diaper bag along, assume I'm prepared, then realize I forgot to refill it! :)

M has a FAVORITE toy, and we have two of the same toy - one for at home and one that stays in the diaper bag.
We also stay stocked up on snacks and water. If we leave the house without snacks I go into full on panic mode. :)

Sorry, beginning of my other comment wasn't directed at you Katie! Also, just want to say that you are a very tactful woman. You should be proud. Love your blog.

Relaxing means my husband off work and cuddling my 2 year old and 9 month old, that's the best!

This is my little one's first Christmas also! I'm trying to relax knowing that she won't remember this anyhow, so what good is it if I'm stressed out?

As I have noticed things starting to stress me out, I've been asking myself, is this really important? For example, I have this idea in my head that we should all have cute, new matching outfits to wear to the Christmas Eve church service. But this year, it's not happening. As I've been trying to figure out what we're all going to wear, and stressing about it, I realized, you know what, it doesn't really matter what we wear. It doesn't matter what anyone thinks of what we're wearing. We're there to celebrate Jesus, not how cute we all look. :)

We have made countless late night CVS runs for things like infant Tylenol, diaper rash cream, and once even a pregnancy test : )

Oh, and I try to relax with kids by letting as much go as I possibly can. I do less, but try and enjoy it. And I try to be less rigid...which doesn't always work!
