. . . for Lauren and Lauren: Say what?

September 2, 2013

Say what?

shirt, pants and sandals:  target

First of all remember my ridiculous story about my indecisiveness with polka dot pants?  Thankfully this time I found these pants at Target for $12, bought them and wore them the next day.  No returning these.

One day last week I was out shopping with my mom and was in the bathroom changing Addilyn's diaper when a woman came up to me and said "Awwww.  So cute.  Girl right?"

Addilyn was wearing this pink polka dot outfit with that big flower headband.

What I really wanted to say was either
"What gave it away?  Her pink dress or the big flower on her head."  or
"No, he's a boy, we were just really hoping for a girl so we're dressing him like one instead."

But of course just said,"Yep.  She's a girl!"

I'm sure this will just be the first of many surprising things strangers say to you about your baby.

People amaze me. When Bristol was like four or five days old we were out in public she was wear a pink and white bow that said daddy's girl and a random old man told my husband "what a handsome little boy". You can dress them as girly as possible and there will always be that one not so smart person.

I almost bought those pants the other day, but they we still above $15...and I still wasn't sure I could pull them off. Love them with the sandals and tee! At least she didn't say, "he is adorable". That happened to my girls, even when dressed girly!!

Ha, people are so ballsy when it comes to commenting on pregnancy and babies!!!

UGH! I could tell you SOO so many stories about similar things happening to me. People are so frustrating and it was only with girls for me. I have a son and a daughter and I never had anyone ask me if my son was a boy, just if my daughter was a girl.

I am sure you will handle it with grace...even if it's tempting not to do so :)

I got that with Katie all the time. She was a big baby (and I did dress her in girl clothes with headbands/bows). What??? Only male babies can weigh a whopping 9 lbs 13 oz at birth??!! The best was with our oldest. She has REALLY BIG pupils, and very little color showing around them (blue). I got asked several times if she had black eyes. Of course the first time I took offense thinking that they thought my child had a shiner! Finally, we figured out what them meant. LOL

Haha, I've had that before when I have dressed Fletcher in the most boyish outfit I could have ever picked... So classic! I have been like you too, tempted to say no actually, a girl :)

My daughter (12 weeks old), gets called "he" all of the time. Even when she is wearing ruffles, or pink or has a bow in her hair. I get it when she is wearing something neutral, but come on people!

When we were out a restaurant with Kendall, we had her covered up with a hot pink blanket and dressed in girl clothes and the waiter commented on our little boy. I couldn't believe it!!!

Haha, my mom would put those baby bows on my bald head because she would get so upset when people thought I was a boy. Granted, I was BALD until I was like three, so it did get a bit old for her. No worries...I have a full head of hair now and have no gender identity trauma to speak of :)

Yup I get that too... but to be fair, one time she was wearing a gender neutral outfit.... Only one time though. And the next day I bought those bow headbands so it wouldn't happen again! That's just a silly thought though.... It's already happened again

I have been hearing those comments for two years now. My daughter will be wearing a skirt and pink head-to-toe and people will STILL call her a boy. It's infuriating.

I just bought some very similar polka dot jeans at Limited today! Love them!

And I can't believe the weird things strangers say about babies and kids. My sister has twin girls, and it seems like they get asked every day if they are twins. Especially when they were babies, dressed exactly the same, in a double stroller, and look exactly the same. Of course they are twins! And then they proceed to tell you about how their cousin's nephew's wife is a twin. Um... great!

Those are really cute pants! I'm glad you kept them. :-) Also, I can't believe you were asked if she was a boy! That's crazy!

love your pants.

Cute pants! And the second you posted a inta pic of that cute stripped dress you got from Target, I ran to my nearest store. But sadly, they were all out... And I don't understand how people are so confused about gender when the baby is CLEARLY all dolled up in pink, bows and prettiness. Like you said, why would I dress a boy like that?

Great post as always! Hope you had a nice holiday weekend!

I've been eyeing those polka dot pants for months. The last time I saw them they were $19 and I just couldn't do it.
I would've said, "No", just to see what she'd say.

Haha, oh man! I guess it's better to ask though than to be wrong!

I probably would have been nice and said just what you said....but I would have been seriously tempted to say, "No!" and act really offended. :P

People are just plain weird with their questions/comments when it comes to babies and pregnancy. I find it odd that she even came up to you guys when you're changing your baby. LOVE the pink polka dots!

people are so afraid of getting it wrong. my sister had a similar thing happen, except the man kept saying, what a cute boy, and my niece had on the pinkest, floweriest outfit!

The Lady Okie said... Best Blogger TipsBest Blogger Templates

I really wish you would have said the second one. Ha! Oh gosh. That being said, it's really hard to tell if a baby is a boy or girl. So, from a person who's easily confused, THANK YOU for dressing your girl in pink with a bow. Makes it so much easier :)

Haha...wow! I wish you would have said one of those two things! What on earth do people think?!
