The head tilt

On my birthday a friend posted some pictures from our childhood and couldn't help but point on my "signature head tilt."  Somehow I managed to forget about it, which is funny considering I still do it often.  I'm pretty sure a good amount of my pictures growing up consisted of a side head tilt.

In case you can't tell, since I look just about the same, there's me on the right.

And again, the over dramatic head tilt.  I thought I'd look through some of my outfit pictures. Turns out it's one of my signature moves, except I've switched it up to the other side.

In other news looking through that many pictures of just yourself feels awkward.  And narcissistic. And weird.  I'm off to delete at least a couple hundred of them . . .

When it doesn't go as planned . . .

Last weekend was yet another lesson for me in realizing I have little control and learning to get over things and make the best of our circumstances.

Everyone was posting cute Halloween pictures and I'm was in a Home Depot parking lot crying and eating candy corn, with an overly tired, non napping sick baby in the back.

I had been really looking forward to Halloween. Addilyns costume. Trick or treating at Chris parents and hanging out as a family, especially after Chris was gone last weekend.  Both Addilyn and Chris were sick, and Addi had been up from 2-5 straight the night before and wouldn't nap during the day, so I frustratingly got in my car and started to drive. Thankfully she fell asleep quickly but I couldn't help but cry.   I felt pathetic sitting in my car, crying over my expectations for Halloween not matching up.

It's hard for me to not be disappointed because things don't go as planned. Especially for a holiday I was excited about doing with Addilyn.

I texted my sister pathetically and she could sympathize with me but also reminded me that this is parenthood. And life. You can't control everything. Big or little.

I had all these hopes of great Halloween memories, and they didn't happen. But last Sunday my mom and I went to our towns Main Street trick or treating. It wasn't planned and ended up being really fun.  Perfect weather and we had a great time.

So while one day ended up being not so great, another day ended up being better than expected.

I'm sure there will be countless examples of this as the years go by.  Days I have built up in my mind as picture perfect days end with tears, sickness, missed plans or whatever fails to make those expectations met.  But then there will be plenty of days where I had no major plans and they end up being memories I'll cherish.

(Our one round of trick or treating for pictures sake and because that lamb costume needs to get it's moneys worth!)

Vest Twins

vest, button up, jeans: old navy   shoes: target

A few weeks ago I got this vest from Old Navy when everything was 40% off in the store.  It was $15 and I love it.  I've worn it far too many times and am counting it as an appropriate coat from here on out.  Addilyn's little vest is from Old Navy and I bought it last winter for $6 on super clearance. I am so glad it fits her.  I have a vest just likes her, and should probably dress us exactly alike soon, taking full advantage of the time I have left of still choosing her clothes.

And these pictures crack me up.  It's like she's got this whole modeling thing down pat.  No bribing with candy corn was even required this time.

Hope you had a great weekend!

Fulfilling my hippie dreams

dress: c/o mimi's     boots: dsw

I've always been envious of those that can pull of the hippie look, as that it not really something I feel like I can do.  But this dress is probably the closest I'll get.  I picked out a few options from Mimi's the Look, and was really excited this in the one they sent me, partially satisfying my hippie dressing desires.

It's comfy, loose and perfect with leggings and boots.  I wore it for my birthday dinner date with Chris.  I used to wear dresses just about everyday when I was teaching and I miss it.  I'm determined to start wearing them more often as they really are more comfortable than jeans and a sweater.

Follow Mimi's the look on facebook and instagram to keep up with coupons, giveaways and new additions to their shop.  And lucky you, one person can win a $50 giftcard to spend!  If I won I'd pick this dress, this quilted vest, or this comfy sweater!  Enter below and the winner will be contacted in a week.

Thank you!!

Halloween Bark

halloween bark

I've bought my share of candy corn this year and still have plenty left, which didn't stop me for almost buying a few more bags at Target yesterday.  I could definitely eat my share of candy corn on it's own, but figured I should use it for desserts for friends coming over instead.  I'm pretty sure I'll make these butterfinger bars using one of my leftover bags.  But for the others, I think I'll make this again.

No need to measure any of these things.  I'm sure it'd be extra delicious if you added broken up candy like Reese Peanut Butter Cups or Kit Kats.

I used about half a package of almond bark and melted it in the microwave, stopping to stir a few times.  I put wax paper on a cookie sheet and poured it over, spreading it out evening with a spatula. I used broken up pretzels, M&M's, and candy corn to spread out over the chocolate.

Let it harden up for awhile and then broke it into pieces.

That's it!  Super easy and way to easy to eat all of it.
